Through the course of the book, we follow Gabriela as she struggles to find her place in her diverse school, in her household of six children and two parents, and in the world. She discovers new things about herself as she navigates different situations, and her relationships with her friends and family become stronger in the process. The characters are all well developed, and the story line is compelling and engaging. The themes of identity, family, and friendship are woven throughout the story and bring the characters to life. With its meaningful themes and delightful characters, 8. Gabriela McBride is a wonderful read that I am sure will be enjoyed by all ages.
