10. A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn is an absolutely remarkable book. It is an inspiring, yet sobering account of the history of the United States from the perspective of the non-elite, often overlooked members of society. Zinn strives to challenge and reinterpret the accepted history of America, and his goal is to tell the stories of the disenfranchised and marginalized people that are often omitted from the traditional narrative.

This book is written for the common person and is easy to understand, with many vivid descriptions and engaging stories. Zinn does an excellent job of presenting both sides of the story, and he is careful to not let emotion cloud
